Bikini wax or Brazilian? Where the line falls

That is the whole appointment. We run bikini waxing out of a single room studio in South Lake Union, and we have built the service around getting you in, finished, and on with your day. No shared lobby. No waiting around while someone else runs late.

This is the question we answer most, and getting it wrong is how people end up disappointed.

A bikini wax takes the hair that sits outside your underwear line. Think of the edges. The tops of the thighs, the upper triangle, anything that would show under a swimsuit. Everything in the center stays.

A Brazilian goes further. Front to back, everything off, or close to it depending on what you ask for.

Ever booked a wax and left wondering whether you actually got what you asked for?

That usually comes down to nobody drawing the line out loud before the first strip. We ask before we start. Where do you want the edge to sit, how much do you want left in the middle, and have you waxed this area before. It takes about ninety seconds and it saves the whole appointment.

Our honest opinion: the standard bikini wax is underrated. Plenty of people book a Brazilian because they think it is the default, when what they actually wanted was a clean edge for swimsuit season. If that is you, start here. You can always go further next time. Going the other direction is a longer wait.

What a bikini wax costs at our Seattle studio

Bikini wax
$40 30 minutes
Brazilian wax
$80 30 minutes
Brazilian maintenance For clients on a regular cycle
$60 30 minutes

We keep the pricing flat and published, because nobody enjoys asking.

The maintenance rate is worth understanding. Once you are waxing every three to four weeks, there is simply less hair to remove and the appointment moves faster, so the price drops. It is not a loyalty gimmick. It reflects the actual work.

The wax we use, and how we keep it quick

We primarily work with a soft wax infused with tea tree oil and aloe vera. That combination suits all skin types and it is gentle enough for sensitive skin, which matters more in the bikini area than almost anywhere else on the body. Hard wax is available on request if you prefer it or if your skin has reacted badly to soft wax somewhere else.

Licensed technicians work in a private, single room studio, so nobody else is in the space.

Speed is the other half of it. Our clients mention it constantly, and it is not an accident. A tidy work surface, wax held at the right temperature, and strips pulled in a consistent rhythm cut the appointment down without cutting corners. One client timed a full Brazilian, front and back, at under twelve minutes. A bikini wax is a smaller area than that.

How to prep for your first bikini wax

Most first timers arrive nervous and leave surprised. A little prep makes the difference.

Let the hair grow to about a quarter inch. That is roughly two to three weeks after your last shave. Too short and the wax has nothing to grip, which means going over the same patch twice. Nobody wants that.

Exfoliate gently a day or two beforehand, not the morning of. Skip heavy lotions and oils on the day, since wax struggles to grip skin that is slick.

What about your period?

You can absolutely still come in. Wear a tampon or a cup, and know that skin runs a little more sensitive in the few days before your cycle starts. If you have flexibility, booking the week after is more comfortable. If you do not, we will work with it and say nothing about it.

Avoid retinol on the area for about five days beforehand. It thins the surface layer of skin and raises the risk of lifting.

Aftercare for the first two days

The first forty eight hours decide whether you get smooth skin or a crop of ingrown hairs.

  • Skip the gym, hot tubs, saunas and swimming pools for a day
  • Wear loose cotton underwear rather than anything synthetic and tight
  • Keep the area clean and dry, and leave it alone
  • Use a cool compress or aloe vera gel if things feel warm
  • Start gentle exfoliation after about three days, not before

We have written the full routine up on our waxing aftercare guide, and it is worth a read before your first appointment rather than after it.

Ingrown hairs are usually a prep and aftercare problem, not a wax problem. Regular light exfoliation between appointments does more than any product you can buy.

Booking, parking and finding us

We are at 1500 Westlake Ave N #104, Seattle, WA 98109, in South Lake Union. Parking is straightforward and clients bring it up in reviews more than we expected, which tells you something about the rest of the neighborhood. Several bus routes stop within a short walk.

Booking runs online, so you can pick your slot without a phone call. If you would rather talk it through first, call us at (206) 383-3157 or use our contact page.

Once you are on a cycle, most clients settle into an appointment every three to four weeks. Hair grows in phases rather than all at once, so the first two or three visits are about getting everyone onto the same schedule. After that it gets faster and easier.

If you want the full picture of how we work, our about page covers the studio and the products, and our client reviews are all public.

Bikini wax questions from Seattle clients

How much does a bikini wax cost in Seattle?

Ours is $40 for a 30 minute appointment. A full Brazilian is $80, and Brazilian maintenance for regular clients is $60.

How long does hair need to be for a bikini wax?

About a quarter of an inch, which is usually two to three weeks of growth after shaving. Shorter than that and the wax cannot grip properly.

Does a bikini wax hurt?

There is a sting, and we will not pretend otherwise. Most clients describe it as brief rather than bad, and our reviews put it around a four out of ten. It gets noticeably easier by your second or third appointment as the hair grows back finer.

How often should I book a bikini wax?

Every three to four weeks keeps you on a clean cycle. Leave it longer and you reset the growth pattern, which makes the next appointment slower.

Can I get a bikini wax on my period?

Yes. Wear a tampon or a cup. Skin is a little more sensitive in the days before your cycle, so book the week after if your schedule allows it.

What is the difference between a bikini wax and a Brazilian?

A bikini wax cleans up the edges outside your underwear line. A Brazilian removes everything, front to back. We will confirm exactly where you want the line before we start.
